Update & Recent Works

Hello, I haven't forgotten about this space.
I have been back here on and off wanting to write a post
but couldn't find the time finishing it off.
Hence, more posts have been parking in the draft box.

Anyways, I have intention to show you more of my recent work.
My style and direction has somehow changed.
I felt different when I was creating them.
I also feel that I am drifting away from the old self,
as in how I was being inspired when I was pregnant with Peanut.
Yes, I drew a lot of quirky mushrooms and Minzy Girl's little adventure.
Right now, it seems to be more light, liveful, still colourful..
I have realized I am spending more time wanting to do more decorating Peanut's room again.
So you are most likely to see more nursery theme related (maybe not??) coming through.

These are some of my recent works which I have been created since the last post in blogging land.
Alphabet Range - Whale
Playing with texture (unfortunately you can't see the detail from here).
The colour of this print is rather more aqua blue-greenish.
The whole approach of this illustration is light and pastel..soothing to look at.
Still working on a few more alphabet as we speak..

 Everything Is Floating
At last, a new mushroom print to be included in Y2012.
I like how the school of fish are swimming at the bottom of this illustration.
It's kind of make it looks alive and bubbly I thought. :)

Close up of "Everything Is Floating"
Swing To My Lou
New Minzy Girl's print to be added for the Y2012.
My black and white of this illustration was just Minzy Girl sitting on the swing.
Took me quite a fair bit of time producing this illustration for some reason.
While I'm on here...just to let you know I have now downgrade my Platinum plan
I was with BigCartel to the basic 5 products.
So if you like to see more of my work and like to purchase some of them.
Feel free to visit my Madeit and Etsy's store.

Adios for now!

New Print: Riding High

Have finally made time to make this print available. Was working on this for a topic in Illustration Friday awhile ago. Did not like it at the time..but looking at it with fresh eyes now. Hrm, should include that into Missy Minzy's range :)

My recent work seems to be changing. It seems like 'running away' from drawing more mushrooms nor Minzy Girl. Liking the ride of new inspiration as changes took place in personal life. Somehow makes me wonder what are my next adventure I want to take Missy Minzy to. It is still unknown at this stage. One thing for sure, Y2012 is not about doing big for me anymore. I wonder is it normal for any creative people like you and me have similar journey where you stop and ponder asking yourself, hmm, so what's next? I hope it's a positive take for you and for me if you happened to be in the same shoes. X

December Challenge: Day 1

Today, marked the 1st day of summer for the down underer (is there a word like that??)...lol

For those who have been following my blog early this year would have recall I'd set myself a 3 months challenge: to create an art a day, multiply my day. The challenge was very successful and I had a ball creating all sort of odd balls (ya ya ya!) and whimsical illustrations, everyday. That said, I thought maybe I will do the same thing but just for December! With a theme of Christmas spirit! So you will be seeing a lot of Missy Minzy in Christmas spirit!

I want to bring back the meaning of what blogging means to me. It will be a challenge now that with Peanut teething (she now has her bottom teeth growing. so cute!!) but I will try! If you like seeing what you are looking. Please go ahead grab them and plug into your blog/site. With a condition you link us back. Fair? Remember: Karma :P

Oh, just to let you know. All of the prints and illustration you are looking at were all hand illustrated by me. Then colour digitally by me (my 10 years of professional graphic designer's skills come in handy!). All prints were direct print from my digital artwork and NOT scanned images. The quality of the prints are all archival inks and in top quality. So your prints for sure print out sharp and colourful! Enjoy!

Not quite sneak peek shots

I have quite a bit of breakthrough this week. Hence, I have some new work to be unveiled and share with you. It looks this week has been a productive week. And am quite satisfied with the bright and vibrant colours!
One of my new work this week
No title at this stage.
Will soon list them on madeit when a title is given.

I have been spending heaps of quality time watching Peanut growing (sorry if I haven't write you back sooner). Gosh, don't they grow up quick?? 5 months she is now. I had to unwrap the christmas pressie dress set which I bought for her before she was born cuz she is getting longer. She is going to be taller than me. :) I came to realize whatever things does not matter. The most beautiful things is now. So lovely watching Peanut growing. So sweet! :)

Madeit's store frontview's banner ..lol
Thought I could have a little bit of fun ;)

Apart from Q time watching Peanut growing...
I have also spent a bit of time reflecting about the future for Missy Minzy.
love love love this print...it looks a lot better in real life :))

I have noticed that the only thing which I should,
maintaining my momentum is to keep creating and keep going.
That should be the ultimate goal for me.
I actually don't mind this print if it's in my original black and white sketching.

Just keep on doing what I love doing and enjoy the adventure ride while am on it. :)
There should be a few more new works on the way..stay tuned peep. xo

That cloud in Missy Minzy's World

Waking up to a wet weather in Melbourne this morning. However my mood is actually feeling lighter. Probably it got to do with It's Friday!? Having the thought of making some soft toy. No idea what to make at this moment. Maybe it's a good way of spending time with Peanut while watching her learning how to roll for a change :)

I just realized I have not introduce to you one of my recent work.
Please meet my "Very Cloudy". It's 8 x 10".
This is how the clouds look like when it's Very Cloudy in Missy Minzy's World.
Was thinking white or black frame (I like simple frame).
Though black frame makes this print look outstanding.

It's a shame that the screen could not show you
how beautiful the colour is in real life.
It will be available on Madeit soon.

Keep Calm and Carry On

This week has been challenging for me. I have lost my mojo. Not feeling very motivating to do any creativity. Any artist who involving in the creative industry will understand how I feel very well. You have your ups and you draw and admiring every piece of your work. When you are down and feeling low, you just don't know what to do to yourself.

A lot of time people might be holding back their feelings and thought towards what they do and not sharing it on their blog. Other time people might just updating you happy jolly post. Well, I reckon am the sort of person you get what you are seeing.

I guess part of the reason why am feeling blue is people are always talking about money. I lost my job almost 1.5 year ago before I had Peanut. So financial has always been an issue for me. Missy Minzy is my turning point as it gives me hope and lights when there's seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Writing blog about my adventure in Missy Minzy world is something I always looking forward. So you can see I have invested quite a bit of time doing all this.

The issue of being 'out there' is that you have to be aware of people might copycat you. They are observing what you are doing. I must have did something right then if that's the case, I think? I have received an email asking where do I get my supplier and ask to share my contact. In my honest opinion, that email upset me a lot. I know I have been helping people online and offline. I do it simply because am hoping one day people will help me when I ask for help too. In this case, I felt I was being taken for granted for being kind. Where is the business ethic?

As for the money talking. Unfortunately am not those sort of person. How bad is that? I need those skills to sell my work though. I would like to sell more of my prints and works instead of being asked to spend money on unnecessary things. Where are the so called help towards we the WAHM?? I reckon I will be packing up my piles if I were to spend all of the money before earning any.

It is very easy to get distracted. All I can do right now is to keep positive. I have to keep doing what am doing, making it perfect as it goes. Mr Minzy told me just treat it as doing it for passion and not for money (with or without sales). I felt like a poor artist when he told me that. Haha. Keep Calm and Carry On, peep.

ETA: (guess what? I just received an email asking to spend money [again] right after I clicked the "send" button. pfffft).

BuSyBuMbLeBeEeeeee

I have been having late nights since end of August. It's quite amazing that our body can somehow cope with late nights and the sleepless nights (*cough* on top of taking care of Peanut*cough*). I was just telling Mr Minzy that the pattern of working late reminds me of when-I-was-still-young-and-naive. :D I have always a night owl. :P

1. I stayed up for assignments.
2. I had to work till the wee hour cuz we had to rush for datelines for tomorrow's pitching! Gotta love advertising.
3. uhm... just so I could avoid the traffic jam?
4. Stayed up late, enjoy the quietness. Inspiration usually strikes during this time, usually! :)

Was very busy preparing this to be sent...
Felt so good when they are all done... :D

Note to SydneySiders: Will notify you the venue where you could get hold of Missy Minzy's Giclee Prints! :)

New Print - Stems of Mushy Love

I have been feeling guilty for haven't been very active in my blog of late. I have written quite a few posts and they are all sitting in my drafting mailbox (always wanted by Peanut) awaiting for me to complete them. It can be tiring looking after a newborn for a newbie mum. I do my best, hop on here working on some creative works whenever she is asleep. That is the ME TIME I looking forward to dive into it on daily basis.

Had this done a week or so. Just needed to give a whimsical name to be completed. Glad to find a name for this masterpiece, finally.. :)
Stems of Mushy Love
is now available to be purchased here.

New Found Talent: Catalina Estrada

Some of you may now know that am big in pattern and texture. I have been doodling and collecting all sort of interesting shapes offline. It has inspired me in a lot of ways.

Today, I came across this interesting illustration by this fantastic virtual artist - Catalina Estrada thru LMNOP.
One of her work for PlayTimeParis
It's colorful. Vibrant. Alive. Fun. Playful. One of her work's style reminded me one of my old masterpiece, which I created for one of the major retailer in US. My former superior thought it wasn't really answer the brief but look at how Catalina transformed it! I felt somehow relief and content when knowing my style is actually still marketable and out there..if you know what I meant. Spend some time and look at her work. It is a lot of hard work creating all those lovely illustration alright! :D

It can be available in pure white background as an alternative option if desired.

Challenge Day 104 - More Tweaking

There's actually some tradie guys working on our roof above our pad for the last few days. It wasn't very nice actually. Imagine the noise and spraying noise everytime they walk on top of you. I hope they will finish the work very soon. But I reckon I will still see them coming back to our pad after the long weekend too. On the bright side, at least we are going to have a new, sleeking clean rooftop hey! :)

* * * * * * * *
Posted this on Etsy last night but wasn't very satisfy with it. So doing more tweaking on this.
Alrighty!! Am excited for today! I have been gearing to list more masterpiece on Etsy ever since the day it was launched. I am hoping to list another 3 pieces on Etsy. Excellent feeling everytime an artwork is listed. Not to say there's heaps of them at the moment anyways...but you know what I meant... ;)

Challenge Day 101 - Art Swap Project

I have 2 invitations to join an "Art Swap Project" this week...where one has to invite 6 of your friends to participate.

I like to participate but I don't have enough friends whom I like to invite. So I like to invite some of the blogging land mates to join the fun too! :)

You will only need to send out 1 piece of art and be receiving 36 pieces of art at the end of the time frame...as long as you don't break the circle. The 1 piece of art can be a little drawing, a print, a comic or a zine, a photo, a felted creation, a beaded thing... Whatever fits your niche and mood, and can be dropped in the mail within a week (or something like that...).

Please leave a comment if you would also like to participate. So that I can forward you more detail via email.
With much love! XX
